News Archive - May 2002Kirby Shines on Day 4 of Yorkshire v Hampshire 28.5.2025STEVE KIRBY and Richard Blakey led Yorkshire to their first maximum batting haul of the season against Hampshire at Headingley yesterday.
The final day of the Frizzell County Championship clash was always destined to be a draw after weather wiped out much of the weekend but Yorkshire dug deep to take 12 points from the contest. Blakey hit 83 while Kirby knocked his first ever senior half-century to take Yorkshire past the 400-mark. The flame-haired pace bowler was finally dismissed for 57 with the score on 423 and the game petered out into a draw. Kirby still had the last laugh, though, when he claimed the early wicket of Will Kendall as Hampshire reached 62-1 by the close. The 12-point haul was enough to lift Yorkshire off the foot of the table. C & G Trophy- Yorkshire v Devon, Team News 28.5.2025YORKSHIRE skipper Darren Lehmann will recall all-rounder Gary Fellows to the side for tomorrow's trip to Devon.
Fellows, Ryan Sidebottom and Tim Bresnan are all set to return after sitting out the championship clash with Hampshire. The Tykes almost stumbled at the third round stage of the C& G Trophy against Bedfordshire last season and Lehmann says his side must be on their guard. "We nearly lost last season and we have to play better than that," said Lehmann. "But our one-day form has been good and we're confident." YORKSHIRE: Wood, White, Lumb, Lehmann, McGrath, Fellows, Blakey, Dawson,Silverwood, Bresnan, Sidebottom, Craven. Day 3 27.5.2025Bad weather left Yorkshire's game with Hampshire heading towards being a dull draw after rain wiped out much of the 3rd day's play.
In the 10 overs that were possible Craig White completed his half century before being bowled by a shooter from Mascarenhas. Michael Lumb also survived a late scare when he fended away a rising delivery, but Yorkshire lost no further wickets and closed the day on 207-5. Day 2 26.5.2025Michael Vaughan hit a sparkling half century to light up the 2nd day of Yorkshire's Frizzell County Championship clash with Hampshire.
Vaughan top scored with 54 while Craig White was unbeaten on 49 as Yorkshire reached 174-4 at the close of play. Earlier the Tykes had been frustrated by the Hampshire tailenders. After reducing the visitors to 278-8 Shaun Udal responded by hitting an unbeaten 45 as Hampshire reached an improbable 354 all out. The game was again marred by weather interruptions and it is now looking like rain will decide the outcome. |
