It was a perfect evening at Headingley for the annual Day/Night fixture, warm, a good crowd and the prospect of a great match of cricket.
Yorkshire Phoenix had England Captain Michael Vaughan back to play and also Captain Anthony McGrath from England duty. The Warwickshire Bears also had Ashley Giles back in their side, along with stars such as Nick Knight and Waqar Younis.
Winning the toss Warwickshire elected to bat first and after losing the early wicket of Carter for just 7 recovered through some impressive batting by Nick Knight who hit 95 before being trapped lbw by Captain McGrath. The Bears batted out their 45 overs and ended on 273-6, with Silverwood and Bresnan taking a pair of wickets apiece and Gray the other.
Set 274 to win and being on the bottom of the NL table, the task in hand could have been almost an impossibility, that was until Stephen Fleming took to the crease. Along with opener Wood they put on 167 for the first wicket before Wood fell to Giles. Vaughan hit 22 before being trapped lbw to Troughton and newly capped Lumb scored 16. Joining Fleming at the crease McGrath added 7 as Yorkshire easily knocked off the runs in only 38.2 overs and Stephen Fleming ended 139 not out from only 104 balls and well deserved his Man of The Match Award.
On that performance questions as to why Yorkshire are at the bottom of the table will be asked...
