Yorkshire Masterclass! 17/9/2024

After winning the toss for Yorkshire’s final County Championship match of the season, and possibly the biggest, with the winner taking the final slot for promotion to the First Division, the Tykes decided to bat first on a warm, sunny morning at Headingley.
The first ball wicket of opener Craig White must have had skipper Anthony McGrath wondering if he had made the right decision, as the home side soon slumped to 51 for 3.

Enter the coliseum Damien Martyn. Playing in only his second match for Yorkshire, Martyn, batting at number five, proceeded to tear apart the Gloucestershire attack ably supported by opener Matthew Wood. In putting on a record fourth wicket stand of an incredible 330, Wood reached three figures once again this season (116) playing a supporting role to Martyn, who played one of the best innings seen at Headingley for quite sometime.

Reaching the fastest 100 of the season by any player in the league reaching his ton off only 65 balls in 93 minutes, Martyn went on to smash seven 6’s and thirty-eight 4’s to reach his highest first class score of 238 off only 159 balls.

The score currently is 432 for 6 off 89 Overs.
