Yorkshire Slump to Another Defeat 6/2/2025
Yorkshire lost another Frizzell County Championship Match at Headingley yesterday to neighbours Durham by 167 runs inside 3 days.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat first and were 267-7 at the close of Day 1. Opener John Lewis was 120 not out overnight.

Day 2 saw Silverwood take 3 quick wickets to end the Durham 1st Innings reaching a total of 280.

The other wickets went Gough and Kirby with 2 a-piece and Swanepoel, on his debut, Dawson and Fellows took 1 each.

Yorkshire came into bat with high hopes but this was soon dashed as Wood went 1st ball, lbw to Pretorius. Richardson made 18 before he as bowled by Pattison. Yuvraj made a decent 56 and then came Michael Lumb who managed to single-handedly hold the innings together. At one stage Yorkshire were 115-8, looking like they may have to follow-on before Lumb assisted by Pieter Swanepoel, 17 made an impressive 105. Yorkshire were all out for 220.

Overnight on Day 2 Durham were 99-3, again John Lewis was not out on 43.

Day 3 saw a good crowd at Headingley and again Silverwood struck taking 4-40, Swanepoel chipped in with 2 wickets and Lumb, Dawson and Gough took one each. Pattison didn't bat for Durham after dislocating his shoulder during the Yorkshire innings.

Set a target of 261 in almost a day and a half, victory seemed within Yorkshire's reach? But this wasn't to be as yet again the batsmen failed to perform. Wood again went without scoring once more to Pretorius who ended the match with a total of 7 wickets. Scott Richardson made 18 and the only other score in double figures went to spinner Richard Dawson who made 21. Yorkshire were all out for 93 and left wondering whether Division 1 is really within their reach?
