In a rain affected match at Edgbaston that saw the game reduced to 42 over’s per side, Yorkshire skipper Anthony McGrath won the toss and elected to bowl first on what proved to be a slow Warwickshire wicket.
With accurate bowling from the Yorkshire attack, Warwickshire Bears lost two early wickets and never really looked like posting a high score. Wagh (32) and an unbeaten knock of 61 from Ashley Giles late on allowed the Bears to reach 158 for 9 off the revised 42 over’s. Wickets were shared between the Yorkshire bowlers with Gough, Silverwood and Sidebottom each taking a brace.
The Phoenix built on a solid opening platform to eventually win the game by six wickets. Man of the Match Michael Lumb (61) produced an attacking display with some powerful shots, before eventually falling to spinner Giles. Contributions from captain Anthony McGrath (41) and keeper Richard Blakey (26) saw Yorkshire coast to victory with seven over’s to spare.
