Appointed in November 2001 having spent ten years as Head of Physical Education at Heckmondwike Grammar School.

Has been actively involved in coaching since 1984. Was manager of the Yorkshire School's Cricket Association's U15 2nd XI from 1987-1990 before being elected as 1st XI Manager in 1990. Managed the first YSCA tour to Cape Town in February 2001.

Played league cricket for Birstall CC in the Central Yorkshire League.

Played at every age group level for Yorkshire Schools' Cricket Association in addition to representing the north of England at U15 and U19.

Had the distinction of playing for England at U14, U17 and U19 level. Was a member of the Yorkshire Academy from 1994-1998. During the 1998 and 1999 season played for the County's 2nd XI and made one appearance for the 1st XI in 1999 against Cambridge University at Headingley.

Also made appearances for Worcestershire 2nd XI in 2000 before being appointed to the Yorkshire Coaching Staff in 2000.
