Cricket Groundsman of the Year awards
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today announces that Surrey CCC head groundsman, Bill Gordon, has won the Groundsman of the Year award for the preparation of the best pitches in three and four day cricket. It means the Brit Oval has won this prestigious award for the third year running.
Philip Frost, the head groundsman at Somerset CCC, picked up the award for preparing the best one-day pitches and came runner-up in the three and four day match category. Headingley’s Andy Fogarty claimed second place behind Frost for the quality of Yorkshire’s one-day pitches.
Kent CCC’s Beckenham Cricket Club ground won the award for the best ‘outground’ pitch, with Whitgift School in Croydon coming runner-up. The best University Centre of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE) ground was Cambridge University’s Fenners ground, followed by The Parks at Oxford University.
The rankings are compiled by using marks given to each ground which are filed by both umpires at the end of each game.
