YORKSHIRE V SOMERSET MATCH DRAWN 13/9/2024

Somerset saw their faint hopes of promotion from the Frizzell County Championship second division disappear when the match against Yorkshire at Taunton was abandoned without a ball being bowled on the final day.

The umpires took the decision at 10am on the final day after torrential overnight rain had left the outfield saturated.

Both clubs took seven points from the draw, which leaves Somerset too far behind third placed Glamorgan with only one round of fixtures to play.

Yorkshire had earlier made 324 in their 1st innings, openers Phil Jaques and Joe Sayers making 95 and 62 respectively.  Somerset then declared their innings on 141-0 hoping to make a match of it as they chased the slim chance of promotion. However with the weather intervening with Yorkshire 125-4 in the second innings a draw was an inevitable outcome.
