On a rain-affected match that saw the game reduced to 41 overs per side, Yorkshire, batting second, passed the Somerset total with 14 balls to spare.
In the Somerset innings, Ricky Ponting again was the thorn in the Yorkshire side as the Australian hit another fine century (113 off 107 balls) to go with the one he scored in the County Championship a few days earlier. Supported by Dutch (34) and Hildreth (32), Somerset lodged a respectable score of 252. Pick of the Yorkshire attack was once again Ian Harvey, whose match figures were 9 overs taking 1 for 44. Steve Kirby bowled well with no reward, conceding just 28 off the 6 overs he bowled.
After being set 254 to win under the Duckworth - Lewis method, the early loss of Harvey had no effect to the chasing side. Wood again in the runs (56) and Michael Lumb (71) set about the Somerset attack with vigour. A career best for Yorkshire saw Andrew Gale (70 n.o.), supported by McGrath (39) and finally Vic Craven (8 n.o.) lead the home side home finishing on 255 for 4.
