Yorkshire have been beaten within 3 days by Somerset at Scarborough in the Frizzell County Championship Division 2.
Making only 296 in the 1st Innings the home side never looked in control of the match, Darren Lehmann top scoring with 90 not out. Outstanding bowling by ex-West Indian International Nixon McLean restricted the Yorkshire total, McLean taking 6-79.
In reply Somerset made 451, opener Francis making 109 and Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting making 112 in his County debut for the visitors. Yorkshire's spinners claimed the majority of the wickets with Dawson taking 3-79 and Lehmann and Lawson on his debut taking 2 a-piece.
Somerset took a lead of 155 into the 2nd Innings and had Yorkshire 63-3 at the end of Day 2, with a miracle required by the White Rose County to save the match.
Yorkshire were all out by lunch on Day 3 leading by just 5 runs, McLean and Dutch sharing the wickets 5 each. Matthew Wood the mainstay throughout the innings with 66 not out.
Requiring only 6 for victory Somerset only needed 4 balls and cruised to victory by 10 wickets.
