Following today’s Board Meeting of The Yorkshire Cricket Club, we are pleased to confirm the appointment of Craig White as Captain of Yorkshire CCC for the 2004 season.
After carefully assessing a number of candidates for this very important role within the club, David Byas, our Director of Cricket, recommended that Craig White was the right person to fulfil this position, and the Board fully support his recommendation.
We all wish Craig every success in the forthcoming season, and hope that he can lead Yorkshire Cricket back into the First Division of both the Frizzell County Championship and the National Cricket League.
We would also like to clarify the position with regard to Anthony McGrath who, as you know, was Yorkshire’s elected Captain during the 2003 season.
Following discussions with Anthony, it was decided that it was in his best interest, in pursuing his England International career, that he should concentrate on this aspect and relinquish the Yorkshire captaincy for the time being. Anthony still has a great deal to offer to the club in the future, and he knows that his past contributions have been greatly valued and appreciated by the Club.
Craig, 34 was born in Morley, Leeds but spent much of his youth playing cricket in Victoria, Australia. He made his county debut in 1990 and received his Yorkshire Cap in 1993.
Craig White is the 4th Captain in as many years at Yorkshire, following on from current Director of Cricket David Byas who led the County to Championship victory in 2001, his brother-in-law, Australian Darren Lehmann and Anthony McGrath.
