Moved up the batting order to No 4 in late season, he responded by hitting 123 against Glamorgan, his first century in three years, and in the final match at The Oval he turned the tables on champions Surrey with a solid 71 to end the summer with 684 runs, his best aggregate for five years. His usual quiet efficiency behind the stumps earned him 41 championship dismissals while his 26 catches and six stumpings in the National League set a new record in this form of cricket.
