After his brilliant first full season of 1998, hardly anything went right for Wood last year and he struggled in all forms of cricket, but no-one for a moment doubts that this was a mere blip in what will be an outstanding career. Never gave less than 100 per cent and there was a silver lining in his splendid 48 not out which brought a dramatic National League victory over Essex at Chelmsford.
