DAVID BYAS A dramatic first season as captain. He maintained his form with the bat, continued to take stunning catches and led the team by example. Again came very close to Test selection.
MARTYN MOXON Having worked so hard to restore Yorkshire to the front rank it was ironic that this ambition should be realised after he had left the captaincy. He assumed his new role as senior professional with his natural style, played some superb innings and reminde d the opposition that the team were not beaten until he had been dismissed.
DARREN GOUGH His form improved as his fitness increased and he rightly resumed his place in the England team for their tour to Zimbabwe and New Zealand. He still maintains the vital asset of being able to impart his own joy in the game and passing that onto the public .
CRAIG WHITE One of Englands most talented all-rounders and the one most capable of producing Test Match performances when fully fit. This has been acknowledged by his inclusion on the England 'A' tour and subsequent trip to New Zealand with the full tour. Dangerous t o the best batsmen and bowlers alike. A player of high scoring potential and now a first class slip fielder, his best years are yet to come.

RICHARD
STEMP Won his cap and celebrated with a five wicket return against Nottinghamshire. His batting also progressed to a better-than-eleven status. His fifth season should bring him to his best at a difficult time for finger spinners. |
ANTHONY McGRATH A seemingly unstoppable career was checked by a king pair at Scarborough in July after which his confidence needed rebuilding. Selection for the 'A' tour suggested England, like Yorkshire, have few doubts about this major talent.
RICHARD BLAKEY He continues to bat too well to be a specialist wicket-keeper but after nine summers he has found, and enjoys, his role in the team. He must be the most accomplished number seven in the country.
MICHAEL VAUGHAN A further advance culminating in an 'A' tour place and a record third nomination as Young Cricketer of the Year. Needs more practice with his off-spin but made a dramatic advance as a deep-fielder, fast with an accurate long throw.
CHRIS SILVERWOOD Won his cap and was acclaimed Young Cricketer of the Year by a substantial margin by the critics. A surprise selection for England's senior Winter tour yet well deserved. A good eye and willingness to learn makes him an improving batsman and possible all-ro under.
GAVIN HAMILTON Not until Darren Gough was required by England did he get a chance with the first team and he then responded well. He will be pressing for a first-team seamer's spot this season.
COLIN CHAPMAN Again demonstrated his remarkable patience as understudy to Richard Blakey, continuing to perform at the highest level in the 2nd XI, ready should injury allow the opportunity to step up into the first team.
IAN FISHER Continued to make steady progress in the 2nd XI learning his craft as a left arm bowler.
RYAN ROBINSON The second of two new staff members, proved his worth with regular contribution of runs to the 2nd XI cause. A member of the successful East Bierley team in the Bradford Cricket League.
MATTHEW WOOD Did not enjoy the best of seasons in 1996. He has already demonstrated that he is capable of making a big score once he is 'in' but must aim for more consistency next season.
MATTHEW HOGGARD Benefited tremendously from a winter overseas and thoroughly deserved selection for the England Under 19 team. He is another of our crop of outstanding pace bowlers waiting an opportunity to show his talent.
RYAN SIDEBOTTOM Unfortunately missed most of the season with an injured back. He was able to play in the last few 2nd XI matches and will build himself up over the winter ready for a fresh start in 1997.
PAUL HUTCHISON Returned from the Under 19 tour to Zimbabwe with a glowing reputation only to be frustrated by a back injury, similar to Ryan Sidebottom, which prevented him playing any meaningful cricket during 1996.
BRADLEY PARKER He demonstrated his loyalty to the club by signing a new contract and then becoming the mainstay of the Second XI batting without once being selected for a senior competetive match. A great player waiting for his opportunity.
