Middlebrook generally alternated games with Yorkshire's other spinner Fisher last year. He was more successful with the ball securing 31 wickets at an average of 24.87, his 6-82 against Hampshire being a career best, incidentally it was in this innings he took the rare feat of 4 wickets in 5 balls. In the second team he made useful contributions with the ball, taking 28 wickets at an average of 20.46, with a best of 7-51 v Derbyshire.
