Yorkshire has been quick to respond to the sad death of Sir Donald Bradman by requesting the Hon. Geoffrey Keighley, their former second eleven (and occasional first eleven) captain to represent the club at the Memorial Service. Geoffrey Keighley appeared in 35 first class matches for Yorkshire between 1947- 1951 and captained the second eleven in 1949 and 1950 as one of the few non-Yorkshire born players to appear for the club.
In 1948 the Yorkshire Club invited Sir Donald to accept Honorary Life Membership and made a presentation to him in recognition of his outstanding performances in Test matches at Headingley. The Yorkshire people have felt a deep respect and affection for the Don and recall with some nostalgia the magnificent innings he played at Headingley.
A second Memorial Service will be held later in the month at Bowral near to the Bradman Museum at which the County will be similarly represented. Terry Brindle the former Yorkshire Post Sports Editor who is now living in Australia will provide a further Yorkshire presence.
Ends 14/3/01
