Yorkshire Schools pipped by 1 run at Cape Town

Yorkshire schools coped with a significant culture shock having left England in freezing conditions to be confronted by glorious sunshine and temperatures into the 60's (f). But a lack of match practice proved a little too much for them against the Western Province U17 team at Bellville, Cape Town.

Province reached 151 for 8 in their 50 overs, thanks to 27 extras. The Yorkshire boys certainly surprised the opposition with the pace of David stiff (8, 1, 13, 2). Province also found the Yorkshire spinners difficult with slow left armer David Wainwright very impressive (10, 3, 18, 0) Dan Broadbent off spin gave him 2 wickets (10, 2, 30, 2) whilst Tim Bresnan (9, 1, 24, 2) also impressed. Keeper James Townsend took 4 catches.

The Yorkshire batting was somewhat disappointing apart from a fine 48 by Haroon Rashid and the matched hinged on the last ball which resulted in a run-out leaving Yorkshire one run short of their target.

Yorkshire play their next match against Southern Suburbs on Sunday prior to the highlight of their tour a Day/Night encounter at the Newlands Test venue against Western Province Schools.

For immediate release.
