DARREN GOUGH TO STAY AT YORKSHIRE

Darren Gough has today confirmed that he will continue his career with Yorkshire. His existing contract has a year to run and the Club has indicated its willingness to extend the contract when the existing term expires. It has been a difficult time for him personally with a heavy international programme, his benefit activities and persistent press comment as to his future with the Club. The County has acknowledged Darren's significant contribution to Yorkshire Cricket over many years both on and off the field and which has included raising the profile and standards of cricket throughout Yorkshire and elsewhere. As England's leading bowler and the archetypal Yorkshireman Darren has provided inspiration to players of all ages. As a role model his contribution to cricket in general and to Yorkshire in particular has been immeasurable and the Club was therefore most anxious that he should continue his career in the Broad Acres.

Darren has been concerned and even hurt by the various comments and rumours questioning his commitment to Yorkshire which has never been in doubt. The Committee has therefore given Darren reassurance that they are totally supportive and appreciative of his efforts and disassociate themselves from any view or comment to the contrary. Darren has in return reaffirmed his unquestioned loyalty to the Club, its Coach Wayne Clark and to his colleagues in the dressing room.

He now looks forward to Christmas and New Year with his family and then to his One Day commitments with England in India/New Zealand and ultimately to next season when he hopes to play his part in Yorkshire's defence of the Championship beginning with an epic encounter with arch rivals Surrey in the opening match of the season at Headingley on 24 April.
