Started last season unable to get into the side for the first match and ended it by being voted player-of-the-year by his team-mates. His comeback began with 75 against Somerset at Taunton and in the next match at Headingley he thrashed a career-best 142 not out off the Middlesex attack. He also rapped out half-centuries in the following three matches but tailed off later in the summer although his medium-pace bowling became increasingly useful. Batted consistently well in one-day cricket and topped Yorkshire's National League averages with 450 runs at 37.50 as well as hitting three consecutive half-centuries in the NatWest Trophy.
